‘Fast 2m’ Dongguk University’s Lee Dae-gyun complements defense

Lee Dae-gyun (201 cm, F/C), one of the league’s top scorers, is also improving his defense.

With the 2024 KUSF College Basketball U-League having completed the first half of its schedule, the 40th MBC Bae National Collegiate Basketball Tournament will be held in Sangju, Gyeongsangbuk-do, from March 17 to 26.

Dongguk University, which is in Group A along with Yonsei University, Konkuk University, and Myongji University, 온라인카지노사이트 has been sweating it out, led by Lee Dae-gyun, the team’s only senior and captain.

Dongguk coach Lee Ho-geun said, “He has good shooting, including mid-range jumpers and three-pointers. He is tall, but his main strength is the best among Korean 2-meter players. He is excellent at running the offense. He says he’s an ‘automatic door’ on defense, but that’s not true. His defense has improved. He has improved a lot and is a player who can play.”

Last year, Lee averaged 14.0 points, 6.6 rebounds, 1.6 assists, 1.1 steals, and 0.5 blocked shots in 27 minutes and 56 seconds in 14 games in the U-League.

This year, he’s been even better. After 10 games, he’s averaging 19.7 points, 10.2 rebounds, 2.7 assists, 0.8 steals, and 0.9 blocked shots in just over 32 minutes per game.

On a league-wide basis, he ranks second in scoring, fifth in rebounding, first in two-pointers made, and first in two-point percentage.

But it’s his two-point shooting that stands out. Lee has attempted 101 two-pointers, making 75 of them for a 74.3 percent success rate. That’s nearly 20 percent better than the second-best two-point percentage, KU‘s Freddie (67/123, 54.5 percent).

Even among players with a similar number of attempts to Lee, the top players are only 50.5% (52/103) and 41.7% (43/103). Lee’s two-point percentage is also unrivaled compared to last year’s record (61.7%, 111/180). He’s also shooting 38.5 percent (10-of-26) from three-point range, though he doesn’t make many attempts.

His defense, which was one of his weaknesses, has also improved. Lee was nicknamed “Automatic Moon” last year, but this year he’s improved.

“(Automatic door) was something I heard a lot from my friends and opponents last year. I really didn’t like it, so I paid a lot of attention to it during the winter season. Nowadays, I hear that it’s better than last year,” Lee said.

Meanwhile, Dongguk University will open the MBC Bae on July 17 at 5 p.m. against Myungji University. The U-League will return to action on September 5 at home against Hanyang University.
