Rookie manager Lee Seung-yup rewrites Doosan team history

Doosan has won 11 straight games. It is the team’s longest winning streak since it was founded in 1982 as OB and started playing in the original Korean Baseball Organization (KBO) league.

Doosan defeated Lotte 8-5 in a home game in Jamsil, South Korea, on the 25th. The team has now won 11 games in a row, starting with a victory over Lotte in Ulsan on March 1. It is the longest winning streak for a Korean manager in his debut season. Including foreign managers, he is tied with former manager Jerry Royster, who won 11 straight games (July 27-Sept. 2) when he took over at Lotte in 2008.

Facing a 0-0 tie in the bottom of the third, Doosan scored four runs on three hits and two walks, including a two-run homer by Kim Jae-hwan (35). With runners on first and second in the fifth, Yang Seok-hwan (32) hit a single down the left-field line that Lotte left fielder Shin Yoon-hoo dropped backward in his haste to catch the ball, scoring two more runs. Yang Seok-hwan hit a solo home run (No. 14) in the bottom of the seventh inning for a 7-2 lead.

Doosan starting pitcher Brandon Waddell (29) allowed five hits and a walk while striking out nine to earn the win (3-1). Doosan remained in third place, while Lotte, which lost three straight, dropped from fifth to sixth. They’ll be back in sixth place in just over three months.

Hanwha defeated Kiwoom 16-6 in Gocheok. Down 3-6, Hanwha scored 13 runs in the top of the eighth inning, sending 18 batters to the plate in an hour and eight minutes. They pounded out 10 hits, including five doubles and a home run, to ravage the Kiwoom mound. Kiwoom used four pitchers in the eighth – Kim Jae-woong, Lee Myung-jong, Kim Sun-ki, and Yoon Seok-won – but they were unable to stop the Hanwha bats. The 13 runs are the second-most in a single inning in history.

KT improved to 40 wins (42 losses and 2 draws) with a 4-1 victory over leader LG at Anbang Suwon. They moved from sixth to fifth in the standings. Starter Wes Benjamin pitched eight scoreless innings (3 hits, 1 walk, 9 strikeouts) to improve to 10-3 on the season. He is 4-0 against LG this year with an ironclad 0.71 ERA. KT took the lead in the bottom of the third inning when 카지노사이트 Anthony Alford (29) doubled with runners on first and second and later scored two runs on a wild pitch and an infield grounder.

No. 1 LG lost its fourth straight game. Austin Dean’s single with runners on first and second in the ninth inning saved the day. Adam Plutko (32), who is second on the all-time wins list, was looking for a win against his former club, but was unable to end his team’s losing streak. He gave up three runs (four earned) on six hits and four walks in six innings to fall to 11-2 against a KT lineup he faced for the first time this year.

Last-place Samsung defeated second-place SSG 5-1 at home in Daegu. Starter Albert Suarez (34) pitched eight scoreless innings (4 hits, 4 walks) to earn the win (4-7). First baseman Kim Hyun-jun (5-for-3, two RBI) and ninth baseman Kim Dong-jin (2-for-1, one walk, two RBI) combined for four hits.

In Changwon, No. 4 NC won its fifth straight game with a 5-3 come-from-behind victory over No. 7 KIA. Trailing 3-0 with two outs in the bottom of the seventh, Park Gun-woo (33) drew a bases-loaded walk and No. 4 hitter Jason Martin (28) hit a game-winning home run over the left field fence.
