‘New kid on the block’ Widener’s first win since arriving…and the batting support was on fire

Taylor Widener (Samsung) picked up his first win in the bullpen.

Widener, who wore a Samsung jersey as a replacement for Albert Suarez, started the home game against KIA at Samsung Lions Park in Daegu on the 18th.

Manager Park Jin-man said before the game, “He threw few pitches in his first appearance. I’m pitching after four days of rest, but I think I’ll be fine. There might be some pressure because it’s a home game, but I hope he can overcome it.”

Widener, who struggled in his first start against SSG in Munhak on April 13, giving up four runs on 10 hits in 6⅔ innings with one walk and two strikeouts, pitched well in six innings with five hits and seven strikeouts. It was his fifth win of the season and first since joining the club. He topped out at 152 mph and mixed in a slider, two-seam fastball and changeup.

After Park Chan-ho singled up the middle and stole second, Widener got Choi Won-joon to fly out to right field for the first out. Kim Do-young then reached on an error by the shortstop to put runners on first and third. Kim Do-young tried to steal second but was thrown out. Na Sung-beom followed with a fly to center field. In the second inning, Choi Hyung-woo hit an infield single, but Socrates, Lee Chang-jin, and Han Jun-soo struck out all three batters.

In the top of the third, Park Chan-ho singled to left and reached on a fielding error to put runners in scoring position. Choi Won-jun followed with an infield single to put runners on first and third. With Kim Do-young at bat, Won-jun Choi took advantage of a fastball and stole second. Widener struck out Kim Do-young and Na Sung-beom in succession to end the inning. In the fourth, Choi Hyung-woo, Socrates, and Lee Chang-jin all singled to complete the first triple play.

After striking out Han Jun-soo in the fifth, Widener retired pinch-hitters Kim Sun-bin and Park Chan-ho on a pitcher’s interference and shortstop grounder, respectively. With the bases loaded in the sixth, Widener gave up a double to left field to Kim Do-young. Na Sung-bum struck out swinging. Two batters later, he got Choi Hyung-woo to ground out to first base. Widener turned the mound over to Jang in the seventh inning with a 9-0 lead.

After successfully completing his mission, Widener shared a hug with manager Park Jin-man. Down 9-0 in the bottom of the seventh, KIA managed to pull within two runs on Lee Chang-jin’s sacrifice fly to right field and Choi Won-jun’s RBI single. Samsung went on to defeat Kia 12-2 for its first win of the weekend’s three-game series. The star of the show was undoubtedly the “new guy” Widener. 안전카지노사이트
