Pittsburgh falls to Cleveland in sweep, Choi strikes out three

Choi Ji-Man is batting .173 on the season when he enters the game in the eighth inning.

The Pittsburgh Pirates were swept by the Cleveland Indians. Substitute Ji-Man Choi (32-Pittsburgh) struck out and shook his head.

Pittsburgh suffered an 0-11 defeat against the 2023 Major League Baseball team from Cleveland at PNC Park in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, U.S., on April 18.

Making his big league debut, starting pitcher Quinn Friston was pounded for seven runs on seven hits with two walks and two strikeouts in 5 1/3 innings, including two home runs.

With the game already out of reach, Johan Ramirez (2 runs in 1⅔ innings), Dauri Moretta (1 run in 1 inning), and Yerry De Los Santos (1 run in 1 inning) took over on the mound and gave up back-to-back runs to further widen the deficit.

Choi Ji-Man, who was out of the starting lineup for the day, was replaced by Carlos Santana on defense in the top of the eighth inning.

In the bottom of the ninth, with his team down 0-11, he led off the inning with a walk, but swung at a six-pitch high slider from reliever Emmanuel Clase and turned it into a strikeout.

Choi went 1-for-4, dropping his season average to .173.

Cleveland used five more relievers to shut down the Pittsburgh bats after starter Javier Curry 고스톱 was pulled after three innings of one-hit ball with two walks and two strikeouts to earn the win.
