Shohei Ohtani (29-LA Angels) continued his hot hitting streak, hitting a home run for the third straight game.
Ohtani started in the No. 2 spot in the lineup against the New York Yankees at Angels Stadium in Anaheim, California, U.S.A., on Monday (Aug. 18) and went 4-for-5 with three doubles (one home run), two RBI, one run scored and one walk.
Ohtani, who homered in three straight games, including a three-run shot against the Houston Astros on April 16-17, is now tied for the major league lead in home runs with 35 on the season. The homer and a 3-for-4 night at the plate raised his season batting average to .306.
Ohtani opened the scoring with a single to right field in his first at-bat with the bases loaded in the bottom of the first inning. He didn’t get a follow-up hit, so he didn’t score.
In the bottom of the third, he hit a double to center field with one out. Zack Neto was thrown out trying to reach first base, preventing Ohtani from scoring. Again, there was no follow-up hit.
In his third at-bat in the bottom of the fifth, with runners on second and third, Ohtani reached first on an intentional walk. Mickey Moniak grounded out to end the threat.
Frustrated, Ohtani eventually scored under his own power. In his fourth at-bat in the bottom of the seventh inning, trailing 1-3, Ohtani took a four-pitch pitch from Yankees reliever Michael King for a game-tying two-run home run over the center field fence. The shot traveled 402 feet (about 122.8 meters).
Ohtani led off the bottom of the ninth inning with the score tied at 3-3, raising hopes for the Angels, but this time he struck out. It was his only strikeout of the game.
Meanwhile, the Angels pulled off the upset in extra innings. After holding the Yankees scoreless in the top of the 10th inning, Michael Stefanik hit a game-winning single with two outs in the bottom of the 10th to win the game 4-3.
With the thrilling come-from-behind victory, the Angels improved to 47-48 on the season and remained in fourth place in the American League West.
The Yankees, who lost their second straight game, 한국야동 remain in last place in the American League East at 50-45.
