South Korean men’s tennis standout Kwon Soon-woo (Dangjin City Hall) is likely to make his first appearance in the main draw of a major tournament in six months.
The United States Tennis Association (USTA) reported on Saturday (June 16) that Riley Opelka (USA), who had been named to the singles main draw, has withdrawn.
The previous day, Pablo Carreño Busta (Spain), who was also scheduled to play in the singles main draw, withdrew.
As a result, Kwon Soon-woo (KOR), who was ranked third on the preliminary list, has moved up to first.
If only one of the players on the current list withdraws, Kwon will go straight to the main event.
Kwon has been focused on recovering from a shoulder injury since the Exxon Mobile Open in Qatar in February.
She is currently in Florida, USA, training for the US Open.
The US Open, the third major tournament of the year, will be held at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in New York, USA, starting on the 28th.
Opelka hasn’t returned to the court since injuring her hip and other parts of her body in Washington last August. It is the second consecutive year she has missed the US Open.
Carreno Busta has played just four matches this year due to an elbow injury.
In his first appearance of the year, in Adelaide, Australia, he was dropped by Kwon Soon-woo in the first game.
Nick Kyrgios (AUS), Jan-Lennart Struff (GER) and Mikael Emer (SWE) 먹튀검증 were the other players to withdraw from the tournament.
