Djokovic fined $8000 for slamming racket in Wimbledon final

Novak Djokovic, the No. 2 seed from Serbia, has been fined after losing his Wimbledon title.

Djokovic was fined 8,000 U.S. dollars (about $1.01 million) for smashing his racket during the men’s singles final at Wimbledon on Aug. 18, the BBC reported.

Djokovic, who was seeking his fifth consecutive Wimbledon title and eighth overall, lost the men’s singles final 2-3 (6-1 6-7<6-8> 1-6 6-3 4-6) to No. 1-ranked Carlos Alcaraz (Spain) in a tightly contested full-set match on Saturday in London, England.

Djokovic lost his serve in the fifth set with the score tied 1-1, and in a fit of anger, he slammed his racket against the net post. The racket shattered.

The crowd in the stadium booed. Fergus Murphy, the chair umpire at the time, warned Djokovic that it was a violation of the rules.
