‘Sacrifice and Service’ are two of the spirit of Nowon Samsung

“We will continue to strive to help children learn the spirit of sacrifice and service through basketball and feel joy from it”

Iwon Sports, located in Nowon-gu, Seoul, has been part of the Samsung Little Thunders family for nine years, bringing the fun of basketball to local children.

Coach Kim Jun-oh, who is in charge of education at Nowon Samsung, said, “I’ve been working as a physical education coach for 20 years. I’ve been teaching basketball for Samsung Little Thunders for about nine years,” he said, 바카라사이트 sharing his long relationship with the organization.

Currently, Nowon Samsung has two classes, a hobby class and a development class. “The hobby class is divided into grades. The elementary school division consists of five divisions for grades 2 through 6, and three divisions for each grade in the secondary school division. In each grade, we divide the classes according to the level and organize the lessons according to the level.”

“We have hobby groups and participate in various competitions, and there are some kids who stand out. I thought it would be good for them to represent Little Thunders Nowon, so I prepared (to open a training class), and it’s been about a year now. We haven’t won any tournaments yet, but the kids are working so hard and growing,” he said, giving a positive outlook on the program.

One of the advantages of Nowon Samsung, located in the center of Nowon Banking Street, is its ample gym facilities. It is the only company in Nowon-gu to have three gyms.

“Young people need exercise to improve their physical abilities,” says Coach Kim Jun-oh. There are many academies around, but not enough places to exercise. Nowon Samsung holds classes in three gyms. The gyms themselves aren’t big, but the advantage is that they can be traveled to without a car. It’s also an open system, so kids can exercise anytime they want, even when they’re not in class,” he said.

“Nowon Samsung is a sibling club to Byeonae Samsung. The Samsung gym in Byeonae is spacious, so secondary and developmental classes are usually held in Byeonae. At Nowon, we focus on elementary and skill-based classes.”

Another advantage of Nowon Samsung, which has a total of seven coaches following the curriculum, is the communication with parents.

“It’s hard for parents to watch their children exercise all the time, so we upload training videos and journals after every class to the Nowon Samsung cafe. This way, parents can check what their children have learned and how they exercised even on days when they can’t come.”

Meanwhile, Neowon Samsung’s hobby class also participated in the Korean Youth North Seoul Federation General Basketball Tournament this year and won the runner-up prize.

Coach Kim Jun-oh said, “The hobby class is also participating in various competitions. However, since it is a once-a-week class, the kids sometimes feel pressure to participate in big competitions. So we organize our own Samsung Little Thunders 3-on-3 tournament. To grow, you need a sense of purpose. We are working on providing more opportunities for the kids,” he emphasized.

Finally, Coach Kim concludes, “Team sports teach kids about sacrifice and service. Being able to sacrifice for the team is service. We will continue to strive to help children learn the spirit of sacrifice and service through basketball and feel the joy of it.”
