Man Utd to build new 100,000-seat stadium…6 years, $3.55 trillion to complete

English Premier League (EPL) soccer team Manchester United is moving forward with plans to build a new 100,000-seat stadium as it leaves the “Old Trafford” era behind.

New United owner Jim Ratcliffe is looking forward to building a new 100,000-seat stadium, the British newspaper The Guardian reported on Sept. 29 (local time).

Ratcliffe and other shareholders are expected to make a final decision on the stadium by December of this year.

The 100,000-seat stadium is expected to cost more than £2 billion ($3.55 trillion) to build.

It will take six years from the first shovel to completion.

The new stadium will be built next to Old Trafford, the home of Manchester United, and the plan is to continue to use Old Trafford until the stadium is completed.

The option of rebuilding or remodeling Old Trafford appears to have been chosen in favor of building a new stadium altogether, as the club would have to close the ground during construction or play matches elsewhere, which could significantly reduce its revenue.

The club’s COO Colette Roche has visited the Santiago Bernabeu, home of Real Madrid (Spain), which is nearing completion of its renovation, for inspiration.

United also visited the new 70,000-seat (up to 100,000) SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles, California (USA), which opened in 2020 and hosted Arsenal (England) in a friendly on Sept. 28.

Old Trafford, which was founded in 1910 and has a rich 100-year history, is facing aging facilities, including a leaky stadium roof and sewer backups.

Ratcliffe, the founder of global chemicals group Ineos, became the new owner in February after the EPL and the English Football Association (FA) approved his bid for a 25 percent stake in the club.

Ratcliffe, who is known as a longtime United fan, laid out his goals at his inaugural press conference, including winning the EPL title, the UEFA Champions League (UCL) and renovating Old Trafford. 바카라사이트 추천
