Deputy Culture Minister Rosellan meets with IOC Vice-President to ask for prevention of recurrence

Vice Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Jang Jang-ran met with International Olympic Committee (IOC) Vice President Sermien Ng in Paris, France, where the 2024 Paris Olympics will be held, on Sept. 29 (local time), and asked him to take care to prevent a repeat of the opening ceremony blunder.

“The Korean people were greatly disappointed by the mistake that occurred at the opening ceremony of the Paris Olympics,” said Vice Minister Jang Jang-ran, ”and I hope that you will take special care to prevent this from happening again in the future.”

“I deeply apologize for the mistake at the opening ceremony,” said Vice President Ng, ”I know it is an unforgivable mistake, and I recognize that it should never have happened.

The Paris organizing committee came under fire for referring to the South Korean athletes arriving by cruise ship as North Korea in French and English during the opening ceremony on Sunday.

In response, IOC President Thomas Bach called Yun to apologize, and the IOC issued an apology statement on its website.

The IOC also sent a letter of apology to the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism in Bach’s name.

Vice President Nguyen asked Vice Minister Jang Jang-ran to congratulate the Korean women’s archery team on their 10 consecutive Olympic titles, saying it is a great achievement that no other country can match.

She discussed a variety of topics with Ng, including the IOC’s e-sports competitions, ways to promote sports tourism in Korea, and the expansion of sports exchanges between Korea and Singapore. 안전놀이터
