“Thanks to the support of Jinju City and the Jinju City Sports Association, the tournament went well. We are planning a meaningful tournament for people with and without disabilities to be held in November.”
The 2nd Jinju Mayor’s 3×3 Basketball Tournament held by the 스포츠토토 Jinju Basketball Association has been completed. Organized and hosted by Jinju City, Jinju Sports Association, and Jinju Basketball Association, a total of 36 teams, including 12 U18 teams and 24 men’s open teams, competed in the tournament.
Following last year’s KXO 3×3 Pearl Tour, Jinju City and the Jinju Basketball Association, which solidified its position as a 3×3 city by hosting the KXO 3×3 Pearl Tour this year, once again held a large-scale 3×3 tournament less than a month after the KXO 3×3 Pearl Tour ended.
Initially, the tournament was scheduled to be held on the outdoor courts of Jinju Sports Complex, but due to rainy weather forecasts, it was moved to Jinju Life Gymnasium. The tournament, which was moved to an indoor gymnasium for the safety of the players, was attended by a large number of basketball enthusiasts from Jinju and Gyeongnam, creating a hot atmosphere.
In particular, the long-established ‘LG Whisen Cup 3×3 Basketball Festival’ was held in Changwon on the same day, so there were some concerns about the number of teams participating in the tournament, but the Jinju Basketball Association officials were able to breathe a sigh of relief as 36 teams participated in the two categories of the 2nd Jinju Mayor’s Boat 3×3 Basketball Tournament.
After successfully completing a large-scale 3×3 basketball tournament for two consecutive months, Kim In-sung, president of the Jinju Basketball Association, said, “It’s great to play 3×3 outdoors, but due to rain, we had to move it to an indoor gym. It was unfortunate that the venue was suddenly changed. We also thought about changing the date of the tournament, but it was not easy to hold the tournament due to the many events in Jinju in October. Fortunately, thanks to the hard work of the staff of the Jinju Basketball Association, I think this tournament ended well,” he said, thanking the staff of the Jinju Basketball Association for their efforts to make the tournament a success.
Chairman Kim In-sung said that holding the KXO 3×3 Jinju Tour for two consecutive years last year and this year gave him a lot of ideas and possibilities for 3×3 competitions.
“Last year, we held the KXO 3×3 Pearl Tour for the first time, and Jinju City got a lot of publicity. We received a lot of exposure through internet broadcasts and articles, which helped to raise the image of Jinju City. Holding a big tournament for two years in a row gave us an idea of how to promote our organization in the future. As a Jinju resident before I was the head of the Jinju Basketball Association, I received a lot of help for the development of Jinju and Jinju basketball, so I will try to organize the KXO 3×3 Jinju Tour next year. The mayor of Jinju and the chairman of the Jinju Sports Association are also helping us a lot, so we will discuss well and decide what is the way forward for the development of basketball in Jinju, so that we can hold good tournaments in Jinju in the future.”
Chairman Kim In-sung, who revealed that there are plans to hold a basketball tournament in November, said, “The Jinju Basketball Association Jangbae, which is scheduled to be held in November, is preparing a tournament where people with disabilities and people without disabilities play together.” “We tried it once last year and it was very well received. Last year, I saw people with disabilities and people without disabilities mingling together on the court and having a fun day through basketball. That scene left a very strong impression on me, so this year we are also trying to prepare a place where people with disabilities and people without disabilities can unite through basketball. I think it’s good to compete fiercely, but I also think it’s our job to create a place for unity through basketball, so the Jinju City Association Basketball Tournament to be held in November will be a tournament where people with disabilities and people without disabilities play together,” he said, explaining that the Jinju City Association Basketball Tournament to be held in November will also be well prepared and made into a good tournament.
He continued, “Unfortunately, there are no basketball associations for the disabled in Jinju City and Gyeongsangnam-do. I am also worried about this, but I will discuss it with those around me so that I can try to lay the foundation for the development of Para basketball.” He added.
