An Indonesian media outlet has called for Indonesia’s national soccer team coach Shin Tae-yong to sign a contract extension immediately.
Indonesian media outlet SindoNews said on March 23, “Shin has proven his ability in Indonesia and started to achieve his goals. Recently, he led the Indonesia U-23 team to the quarterfinals of the 2024 U-23 Asian Cup. Although his contract with the Indonesian national team is not yet over, there are reasons why he should be offered a contract extension.”
The first reason cited by the outlet is ‘performance’. The team is increasingly performing in prestigious competitions. “Soaring FIFA rankings aside, Shin has already led Indonesia to the 2023 Asian Cup and the round of 16. They are still battling to qualify for the Asian third round of the 2026 North and Central American World Cup,” 온라인카지노 said the report.
The second reason is the big change that STY (Shin Tae-yong) has brought to the Indonesian national team. “If you compare the state of the Indonesian national team before Shin’s arrival, fans will definitely notice the difference. In addition to interesting game plans and patterns, the team has also changed in terms of endurance and mental strength. In order not to lose the momentum of this great change, the team must extend Shin’s contract as soon as possible.”
Sindonews cited the fact that Shin is loved by Indonesian soccer fans, the fact that the Vietnam national team has gone downhill since the departure of Park Hang-seo, and the fact that Shin could go elsewhere if he is not retained now as reasons to re-sign him immediately.
“Vietnam was very strong under Park Hang-seo, but when he was replaced by a higher-level coach (Philippe Trousier), things got worse,” Sindonews reported. Not only in the FIFA rankings but also in various tournaments,” he said, arguing that a decision must be made to avoid repeating the mistakes of its neighbor.
Shin, who previously coached Seongnam Ilhwa (now Seongnam FC), the South Korean national soccer team, the Rio 2016 Olympic team, and the 2018 World Cup in Russia, took charge of the Indonesia national team in December 2019. The team reached the quarterfinals of the U-23 Asian Cup for the first time in its history, finishing second in its group with wins over Australia and Jordan after losing to host Qatar.
Hwang Sun-hong’s South Korea won their final group match against Japan 1-0 on Sept. 22 to top the group and set up a quarterfinal clash with Indonesia. It will be a head-to-head clash in Qatar as the Koreans look to qualify for the Olympic Games. The top three finishers at the U-23 Asian Cup will qualify for the Paris Olympics, while the fourth-place finisher will face Guinea, the fourth-place finisher at the 2023 U-23 Africa Cup of Nations, in a playoff.
